Harvard Square

Harvard Square is entertaining at any time of day in all seasons. It rollicks with students, shops, university celebrities, restaurants, and theaters crammed into a few bending streets and alleys. Serious competitors face one another in hard fought chess games in the open air plaza. Performers juggle, mime, sing, play all sorts of instruments, and tell jokes in every unused doorway and open space.
If the hustle and bustle get to be too much for you, you can retreat behind the brick walls into the ancient tranquillity of Harvard Yard, with its ivy covered halls and majestic trees. Harvard itself offers good sight-seeing. Visit the lower floor of Widener Library, which contains a four-part diorama depicting Cambridge as it has developed through the years. Several other museums offer engrossing exhibits.
